Brough scoops Goldthorpe medal

Following an outstanding season from the Wildcats scrum half, Danny Brough’s work was rewarded on Tuesday afternoon as he was presented with the Albert Goldthorpe Medal at the awards ceremony in Huddersfield.

A new award this year, the Albert Goldthorpe Medal was created by the ‘Rugby Leaguer and League Express’ to honour the leading player throughout the competition and links to the name of the man who was English Rugby League’s first Superstar 100 years ago.

Goldthorpe made his debut at full-back in 1888 and upon his retirement had scored more goals and points than any other player in the game’s history at the time.

Reporters of the League Express have been casting votes after every weekly round and they pick the three players on a three, two and one point system that they believe have been the best and fairest in each game.

Brough played in 25 engage Super League games for the Wildcats, scoring four tries and 86 goals.

He earned a total of 26 points, five ahead of his nearest challenges in Thomas Bosc, Leon Pryce and Michael Monaghan.
