Embassy Racing is back - and with a BANG!
You knew we wouldn’t be away for long, and true to form, we’ve returned in spectacular style to take on all comers in the European Le Mans series.
Following our exciting adventures both on and off the track in the British GT Championships of 2004 and 2005, when, in case you had forgotten, we finished runner-up, we have spent the year out preparing for an all-out its assault on the world’s premier endurance race series.
We will be competing a brand new Pilbeam MP93 in LMP2, recognised as the pinnacle of sports car racing for privateer entries. Built to a bespoke specification by highly regarded race car designer Mike Pilbeam at his operation in Lincolnshire, the MP93 is based on a unique and incredibly strong carbon fibre chassis. The bodywork has been developed during intensive wind tunnel tests and offers class-leading levels of down force combined with a remarkably low drag coefficient. Utilising the Judd XV V8 engine coupled to a Ricardo gearbox with electronically controlled paddle gearshift and traction control, the whole package will be amongst the most sophisticated on the Le Mans Series grid and we think very competitive.
Responsibility for piloting the new machinery will be handed to long-term Embassy favourite Neil Cunningham, who will be joined for the first time by the equally experienced and hugely talented Warren Hughes. The combination promises not only to be competitive, but with both men displaying a less than compromising driving style and a determination to succeed, we think they will deliver some dramatic on track action for our fans to enjoy.
Rightly excited about the year ahead Neil says:
"As usual, Embassy has fully committed to its choice of series and is in the best shape that I have ever seen. The car is astonishing and we have quality people at every level. I genuinely believe it is up to Warren and me to go out and win it."
Choosing Embassy over other tempting drives for 2007, Warren says:
"The decision wasn’t difficult at all. When I saw what Embassy had to offer, the full-on professionalism and a car that is simply awesome, I just had to be a part of it. Neil and I are under pressure because there really are no excuses - if we do our job we will win, and that’s all that any motor racing driver can ask."
Helping to provide the two drivers with a race winning set-up for every round of the 2007 Championship will be respected race car engineer Alastair Macqueen, who joins the team as technical director, fresh from his role with the JCB diesel world land speed record.
As is usual with a team principal known for his expansive approach to motor racing, there is an added element of intrigue about our 2007 campaign.
Although he is keeping his cards close to his chest, team principal Jonathan France has revealed that he is currently talking to a major player with the intention of forming a partnership that will blow the lid off the LMP2 grid for the start of the new season.
Jonathan said,
"I have spent a year bringing this project together and feel that I have had the time, budget and resources to do a proper job. I want and expect to be running at the front of our class and nothing else will do. We are undoubtedly in the best position we have ever been in to make a serious challenge for the championship entered. As such our operation has caught the eye of more than one motor racing giant, and I am currently discussing how a relationship might improve our proposition even further."
We will continue with our preparations for 2007 with a number of tests planned before the official Le Mans series test session at Paul Ricard circuit on 25th and 26th of March.
We know you all want to see the car, but to make sure we maintain our design advantage you will have to wait until the official unveiling, when our competitors will have less time to play catch-up before the races begin.
Keep it Embassy - 2007 is going to be one hell of a ride…
