Squadbuilder
Wildcats T-R-Y Squadbuilder...
...is an independent body set up by a group of fans in 2002 in order to raise money to purchase and retain players for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats. Since that date we have contributed almost £150,000 towards player purchase and retention. Jamie Rooney, Ryan Atkins, Dale Ferguson, Aaron Murphy, Sean Gleeson and Jay Pitts are amongst the first team squad members whose signatures we have helped the club sign and retain in previous years. We recently part funded the signing of rising star and urrent first team mmber Adam Slater. In order to raise the £150,000 we have had three major fundraising dinners, produced several editions of the fanzine ‘4fs’, run a fantasy League, had a collectors fairs and sold brass plaques. In addition to this we also have around 100 people who contribute to Squadbuilder via monthly standing order.
WHAT IS IT FOR?
It is to help to improve the playing squad of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats. It is aimed at retaining the best of the talent at the club and helping to bring in new players to the club.
WHAT IS THE AIM?
The aim is to find and, above all, retain the best local/British talent available.
WHO STANDS TO BENEFIT?
Us, the spectators, through the benefit of seeing a stronger team playing for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats. Also, the local Rugby League community as a whole as we aim to give local youngsters a real chance!
As the club moves forward, the focus has now been turned towards identifying and securing the next generation of players – players of the calibre of Gareth Ellis, David Topliss, Nigel Bell and Neil Fox – they are out there somewhere! But this is where we need your help.
Richard Agar is determined to bring the best of the local talent to Belle Vue. Previous head coach John Kear was wise enough to recognise the role that these players have in the future of the club, and he came up with the idea of they TRY Squadbuilder scheme – TRY being an acronym for Trinity’s Rising Youth. TRY’s aim is to re-focus the Squadbuilder funds towards allowing the club to sign the best young players from around the district and beyond; especially at the 16 year-old age group.
We are now looking to increase membership of the new TRY Squadbuilder scheme to between 200 and 250 regular paying members. As a reward for this, those who join will be eligible for entry into a draw, held on up to 8 occasions in 2009, for a wine and dine for 4 people prior to the game as well as match tickets to the game.
The success of the TRY scheme is entirely down to the amount of support that we can offer Richard Agar in this vital area – and to do that we need your help. £10 per month from 250 people would provide £30,000 per annum and would give Richard and the coaching team all the ammunition required to see off our local rivals.
We therefore urge you to help Richard Agar and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats invest in the playing future of OUR TEAM!
Thank You
