Fiji UK Snap up Tadulala
Fiji UK Snap up Tadulala
Posted on Friday, 15 August 2008 09:06AM by
BRADFORD BULLS winger Semi Tadulala has been confirmed as Fiji UK’s assistant coach for the forthcoming Carnegie Floodlit Nines tournament - taking place at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on Wednesday 27 August 2008.
The 30-year-old flyer, who will be part of Fiji’s Rugby League World Cup squad during this autumn’s tournament in Australia, assisted in his first training session with the UK based Fijians in Rochdale this week. Tadulala was impressed with the quality of players available to the Fiji UK side and he firmly believes that the squad have the ability to shock a number of teams in Rugby League’s newest competition.
“The attitude shown by the guys at training this week was phenomenal,” explained Tadulala.
“We have a committed squad that are really looking forward to the competition and hoping to make an impact against some of the Super League clubs on show. From what I have seen, there are some talented blokes who have immense skill with ball in hand.”
The former Melbourne Storm starlet, who has also played for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in the engage Super League, is also hoping that the Bulls will release him to play some part in the competition.
He added:
“It would be an honour to represent Fiji UK in the tournament as a player alongside being on the coaching staff. The Carnegie Nines is a new competition, which can firmly establish itself as a top tournament in the Rugby League calendar.
“I would like to play, but it will come down to Steve McNamara making that decision.”
Fiji UK’s Team Manager Mike Ratu believes the appointment of Tadulala has given his players’ a massive boost ahead of the competition.
He said:
“It is a major coup for us to get Semi (Tadulala) on board. He is a committed professional, who will add a new dimension to our coaching set-up. He will work alongside Head Coach Eamonn Ratu and will give a valuable insight into the intricacies of nines rugby.
“The Fijian communities in the UK and everyone associated with the team are looking forward to the competition at Headingley Carnegie.
“We are also continuing with our recruitment drive and remain hopeful of making further announcements in the near future about the make-up of the squad.”
Interested players, who would like to be part of the Fiji UK squad for the Carnegie Floodlit 9s, should register their interest to Team Manager Mike Ratu on 07505 138958 or email
