In the Learning Zone with Sam Obst!!!

The children are this week being treated to a question and answer session with one of the Wildcats stars, as the final part of their Learning Zone programme.

The children have been attending the Learning Zone for about 5 weeks, this week being the final one and they got the opportunity to quiz a player on their life on and off the rugby field.

Semi Tadulala took part yesterday and today it was the turn of the Wildcats’ hooker Sam Obst. Obst got injured in Wakefield’s Round 2 victory over St Helens and has been on the sideline since with a broken wrist.

Here are some of the questions that the children asked the Wildcats’ number 9:

What is your favourite food?
“I like all sorts of food, but I’d have to say that my favourite is probably Thai food; there’s a great Thai restaurant in town”

Which team did you support as a child?
“I lived in Australia as a child and my favourite team was the Brisbane Broncos”

Do you think that John Kear is a good coach and why?
“John’s a very good coach. He’s the first real established coach that Wakefield have ever had, and he’s been in the game a long time so has a lot of experience”

Do you have any superstitions?
“Not really, although I always eat pasta the night before a game and always eat the same food on a match day, because then I know it won’t make me feel ill before or during the game”

What do you do in your spare time?
“Go on the internet, play on the Play Station, watch TV or go to the movies. If I was in Australia, I would go to the beach and go surfing or play golf”

How do you prepare for a game?
“I eat pretty much the same food throughout the week and then we usually do a lot of intense training at the beginning of the week and then it gets easier as we get nearer the game”

What is the best part of your job?
“The best part is coming here and helping all you”

What do you like about Wakefield?
“The people are good and… well... there’s not too much to do in Wakefield really” (he laughs)

If you weren’t a rugby player what would you be?
“I think I’d be a professional golfer”

Who is the toughest player in the team?
“Peter Fox”

Who is the funniest player in the team?
“Kevin Henderson"

What is your favourite ground to play at?
“In England, I like Wigan’s stadium; the JJB, but in Australia I like Aussie Stadium in Sydney”

Why did you decide to come to Wakefield?
“Because I wanted to play Super League”
