Luke George
Luke George, Wakefield’s 2006 off season signing, has impressed in pre- season training and looks set to follow his father’s footsteps in becoming a favourite in Rugby League.
George aims to emulate his father’s successful career at Halifax by making a name for himself at the Wildcats. Wilf George, who won the Challenge Cup with Halifax in 1987, is still involved in the game as a referee in the Yorkshire League Premier Division.
Luke believes his father has been the biggest influence on his career because of his guidance and experience, “I know my Dad will always be there to support me.”
Although still a young player, George has set his sights on Wakefield first team action after playing in the academy for Huddersfield Giants for two years and making quite a name for himself in the competition.
“My personal aim is to make at least five first team games this season. I know I’m still young and I’m just waiting for my chance.”
And a chance he may get. George has had a successful career since he began in Rugby League at 7 years old and his aims for the future are positive and realistic.
“In three years time professionally my sights are set on Great Britain honours, personally I just want to be playing and happy at Wakefield.”
Wakefield fought off interest from several Super League cubs to sign Luke from Huddersfield Giants Academy in the close season of 2006. Wildcats Head Coach, John Kear said of the talented youngster, “We identified him as a three-quarter with the potential to step up to Super League level,"
"He is quick, scores tries and has all the raw materials to develop into a quality Super League player." After signing at three year contract with Wakefield Wildcats George is looking forward to developing his skills and being part of the club,
“The way you’re treated as a player here is great. There’s a lot of support from coaches and team mates. No one here is too big for the club”
