Wildcats Head Coach John Kear (pictured) was a much happier man after his team’s 54-12 win over Harlequins at the Hearwell Stadium today (Sunday).
“I’m delighted for the players,” he said, “they’ve had their critics in recent weeks and this was an outstanding performance.
“They’ve worked really hard in training and came up with the goods today.
“We played well throughout the game and today they did the things that we in the coaching staff know they can do.
“I wasn’t happy to give away the last try at the final hooter but the players have had enough negativity coming their way in the last few weeks so I’m not going to add to it.
“We’ve not picked up any more injuries and the players are deservedly very happy tonight with their performance.
“The two tries we conceded were both soft but against that we delivered some excellent scores ourselves.
“This win is very welcome and now we start work preparing for our next game which is against Leeds Rhinos at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium
“We’ve played Leeds twice already this season and they’ve both been belting games. I hope this next one will be the same.”
Brian McDermott the Wakefield-born Harlequins Head Coach, said: “When things wrong they usually go completely wrong and that’s just what happened today.
“Chad Randall wasn’t fit with a nasty hip injury and we certainly missed him.
“We also came up against a Wakefield side that played well and once they had scored 30 points I couldn’t see a way back for us.”
