Engage Super League club Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Wakefield College launched the Wakefield Media Partnership at the Hearwell Stadium today (Wednesday, May 19).
The Partnership, which is designed to help prepare the College’s students for a career within the media industry as well as provide the Wildcats with additional resources to meet their growing media commitments, will start with immediate effect.
Initially, it is planned that the College Students will undertake coverage of the Club’s reserve and academy team’s home games and their work will be taken on to the Wildcats’ web site. It will also be offered to the other Engage Super League clubs who are involved in the games.
Diane Maskill, the Wildcats’ Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to be establishing this new element to our partnership with Wakefield College. It is a core objective of our business model that we should have strong working relationships with the city’s community and the Media Partnership enables us to provide a real opportunity for young people to develop their skills and, hopefully, an interest in Rugby League.
“Wakefield College are already valued partners for the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and the introduction of the Media Partnership strengthens still further that excellent working relationship.”
David Oxley OBE, Chairman of the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Community Trust, said: “Given the prevailing difficult economic conditions anything that can be done to ensure that young people gain experience as well as qualifications should be encouraged and this Media Partnership provides a perfect pathway for that purpose.”
Sir Rodney Walker, Chairman of Wakefield and District Community Stadium, Trust, said: “Sports organisations within the city such as the Wildcats have a responsibility to nurture relationships with all levels of the community and development of the Media Partnership not only assists the students and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats but will ultimately help many other sports clubs and people gain access to the media in the future.”
Wakefield College Principal, Sue Griffiths said: “We have had a strong working relationship with the Wildcats and today’s announcement further enhances this. This really is a unique opportunity for our students to be working on and I’m certain the experience will prove invaluable for them in the future as it will look great on their CVs
