The Wakefield wildcats have just completed their first year of piloting the girls under 13’s rugby league within secondary schools in the city. Kettlethorpe High school, Outwood Academy, Wakefield Girls High School and Horbury High School have all been taking part in both training sessions and matches since September 2009.

The girls have battled through game in all whether conditions throughout the season gaining points within a league table. Now the league has come to an end the winners who crept into the lead with 14points were Horbury High School.

Kathryn Jones, Wildcats Women and Girls Development officer said “it has been fantastic to see the amount of girls playing the sport. All the schools involved have been great to work with and the support from the teachers has been great.”

“Hopefully the girls will continue to play rugby and the schools will sign up to the league next year.”
