Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have signed St Helens prop or back row forward Paul Johnson on a two-year contract.
The 22-year-old former Blackbrook Amateur Rugby League Club and Great Britain player, has moved across the Pennines on a two year contract with the Wildcats. Paul, who has Super League Experience for St Helens during 2010 also spent some time as a dual-registration player with Co-operative Championship club Whitehaven during the year.
Ironically he joins the Wildcats staff as another Paul Johnson, the former Wigan, Bradford and Warrington utility ace, has just left to join Welsh club, Crusaders RLFC.
John Kear, the Wakefield Head Coach and Director of Rugby, said: “We’ve had our eye on Paul for quite some time and we’ve been following his progress keenly.
“We’re assembling a squad based mainly around young players who have the drive and hunger to succeed at Super League level and Paul certainly fits that bill.
“He’s come from an excellent environment at St Helens and we believe that he has a big future with the Wildcats in Super League.”
James Elston, the Wildcats’ Chief Executive, said: “We’d like to thank Mike Rush, St Helens’ Head of Youth Development who recommended Paul to us and was obviously instrumental in Paul’s move to Wakefield.”
