Girl’s Rugby at Post-16

posted on 4 January 2011

We are looking to increase the participation of female Rugby League at post-16 level through fun and interactive sessions. It is hoped that after taking part in a Wakefield Wildcats rugby programme, Colleges and Sixth-Forms will battle it out head-to-head in the form of a competition. Incorporating Rugby League within the post-16 and college environment will provide students with the opportunity to develop their skills, team work and communication both on and off the field of play. This is also the perfect opportunity for students to forget about their studies and enjoy a sport with fellow students. It will also provide students with the opportunity to expand their social networks when competing against other post-16 teams.

Wakefield Wildcats are currently coaching college teams at Pontefract New College and Wakefield College, however we are always seeking other colleges and post-16 teams to take part and experience the game of Rugby League. It is hoped that once we have more college teams on board, we will be able to organise regular matches and even hold a festival allowing all college teams to play in a competitive nature. However, don’t be afraid if you do not want to take part in contact Rugby League, we can always coach touch rugby.
