The final result of the game went in the Tigers favour after a strong second half finish from the travelling team, but if the Wildcats had converted their chances in the first half the final result could have been very different.
Castleford opened the scoring on the 5th minute with an unconverted try to second row forward Billy Harris but Joel Gibson hit back quickly for the Wildcats and with Graystons’ conversion the home side led 6 -4.
Castleford capitalised from a ball spill from the kick off with Willie Isa scoring his first of the evening, again the conversation was missed leaving the score at 6 – 8.
Dale Morton finished a well worked move for the Wildcats on the 25th minute but Castleford crossed again quickly through Daryl Clark and the score stood at 10 – 14. The Wildcats battered the Castleford line but failed to turn three key moves into points. The Wildcats had a chip and chase try disallowed for offside, were then held up over the line shortly after and on the stroke of half time had another try disallowed for offside. If these opportunities had been converted into points the half time score would have looked very different and Castleford would have been chasing a lead. The score stood at 10-14 as the half time whistle blew.
Castleford entered the second half with a 4 point lead and went on to score 2 early tries in the second half, with Willie Isa claiming his second of the evening and Jordan Thompson scoring his first. This left the score at 10-24. The Wildcats hit back with a try on the 25th minute from Tate but the Tigers finished the stronger of the two sides crossing for further tries from Clarke, Brierley and Thompson, leaving the full time score at 14 – 34.
The Wildcats reserves now have a break whilst the first team travel to Cardiff and Catalans and are next in action at The Rapid Solicitors Stadium on Saturday 26th February at 2.3opm.
