Yesterday saw the official launch of Super League XVI at Old Trafford in Manchester.
All 14 Head Coach’s and all 14 Club Captains were in attendance for interviews, press calls and photo opportunities.
Sky Sport’s very own Eddie Hemmings lead the afternoon’s proceedings that were streamed live on Sky TV. Captain Glenn Morrison had his photo taken on the pitch along side the other Super League skipper’s, posed for a photo with Castleford Tigers captain, Danny Orr and took part in a photoshoot to promote The Magic Weekend in 3D on Sky Sports.
Speaking during the press conference, Wildcats Head Coach John Kear discussed the clubs current position and his concentration on Saturday’s fixture,”I think it’s rumour and speculation that causes unrest and affects players but what we’ve tried to do is to keep the players fully informed.”
“We are happy with our pre-season preparations. A lot of our younger players have really come into their own and have matured off the field during the difficult times that the club have faced, but more importantly have also matured on the field and are learning what they want to get out of each match.”
“We have to concentrate on our game and deal with here and now, and right now that’s 5pm on Saturday when we take on the Tigers.”
Captain Glenn Morrison was in high demand throughout the afternoon and gave up his time to answer all questions asked. The Aussie forward can’t wait for Magic Weekend and is confident that the players are putting everything else aside and only concentrating on their work on the pitch, “All our focus is on training hard and playing well. We have some great, enthusiastic young players that are raring to go and everyone is looking forward to this weekend’s game.”
“Staff at The Wildcats will work hard to look after the Club – our job is to get out there and play some good footy. I know there is heavy concentration on off-field news but I speak on behalf of the whole team when I say that our only focus is on Saturday’s fixture against Castleford. We can’t wait.”
Wakefield Wildcats face the Castleford Tigers on Saturday at 5pm at Millenium Stadium in Cardiff. Don’t miss out!
