John Kear is looking forward to tonight’s trip down the M62 for the Wildcat’s clash against his old club Hull FC.
The return of Ben Jeffries into the squad yesterday afternoon has provided a great physical and psychological boost for the team. The Aussie stand off put his arm up yesterday eager to play and requested a fitness test. John Kear told us, “He asked for a run out yesterday which we gave him and he passed without feeling any ill effects, so aslong as there’s no reaction today he has a good chance of being in the 17 man squad.”
With another inclusion to the squad in the form of strong forward Paul King after recovering from a minor foot injury, the team has the addition of two experienced players. “It’s very pleasing that these two players have returned to the squad. Playing with a team that includes a lot of under 23 year olds is bound to be tough when you’re playing hardened professionals, so it will be great to get more experience and guidance on the field this week.”
The effort and the application of the team last Friday can not be knocked, even though the result didn’t go the Wakefield way. The team showed great strides defensively and it’s unfortunate that they came up against such a well structured, on form Warrington side. Young Matthew Wildie has been included in the first team line up for the second week running due to his impressive performance against the Wolves last week and a great week in training.
Head Coach John Kear feels that Matty has justified his place in the first team squad, “I was really pleased with Matty last week, he showed a lot of positive signs playing at both hooker and half back. He has showed a great deal of maturity over the past couple of weeks and his reward for that is that he maintains his place in the squad.”
With the return of some key players for Hull the fixture tonight is sure to be a tough and exciting one. Hull FC have drastically improved recently and made big strides forward. Both teams are entering the game after a loss the week before so will be eager to turn that around and leave with the 2 points. “Hull FC have quality personnel within their side, the return of Great Britain International Sean Long is a real boost for them, he is one of the great’s of the modern game. They’re playing with a bit of stick in them at the moment, it’s going to be a great, tough game and we can’t wait.”
