Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Youth Development Officer Tony Drury was appointed Assistant Coach on the England Youth Camp this week.

Tony, who was working alongside Head Coach Dave Elliot, spent 8 days with 50 talented youngsters at St Mary’s College in Sheffield.

The week consisted of 3 matches and a range of training and team work. Two test matches were played on Good Friday, one that Drury Head Coached against Wales and one that Elliot Head Coached against France. The England side were victorious against Wales with a 24-18 win but lost out to France with a final score of 19-18 to the visiting team.

The large 50 man squad was then cut down to just 2o that were to face France again in a second test on Tuesday 26th April. The game was played at Odsal Stadium and England this time claimed a victory and completed the series with a fantastic 54-18 result.

Tony Drury enjoyed his week with the squad, “It has been a pleasure to work with all the players and staff on the trip. The week consisted of drills and skills which were both modular and sequential.”

“The countries young, elite talent was certainly on show and I look forward to seeing what they are all capable of in the near future. I’d like to thank Dave Elliot and the staff for an enjoyable, challenging week.”
