On Thursday 31st March the Yr 5/6 girls from Woodlesford came across to Heath View to compete in a full contact rugby match and what a game it was!
From start to finish both teams played enthusiastically and demonstrated a high level of skill and team work. Tackling on both sides was fantastic and even a little bit scary at times- they really got stuck in! At half time the score was a nail biting 3-2 to Woodlesford. With everything to play for both teams came back to the field determined to win and impressive tries were scored, some were even from well within their own half!
Even though the final score was 8-5 to Woodlesford, the Heath View girls all said what a fantastic game they’d had and shook hands like true professionals at the end. The away team were very gracious, mature winners who also commented on how much they had enjoyed the match.
Hopefully this is the start of a good partnership and many more games will be played between our two schools in the future. The match was refereed by Andy Stoneham, a teacher from Woodlesford, who was very patient and fair to both teams. Supporters from both sides were very encouraging, polite and enthusiastic with a few even commenting that they didn’t realise girls could play so well- they certainly know now!
