Rugby League Express editor Martyn Sadler has clarified the caption that appeared in the League Talk section of this week’s edition of Rugby League Express, which has upset several Wakefield Trinity Wildcats supporters.
A photograph showing Wildcats officials delivering their Super League licence application to RFL Operations Director Ralph Rimmer had Rimmer supposedly commenting, “Where’s the nearest bin?”.
“Unfortunately the photograph was intended to have an explanation attached to it saying that this is what we hope won’t happen, but that was inadvertently left out of the piece,” explained Sadler.
“We wanted to emphasise that we hope the RFL has not already made its mind up about which club will fail to get a Super League licence. I would therefore not want any Wakefield fans to get the wrong impression. It’s vital that the RFL treats the application on its merits, alongside every other application. I’m certain that Wakefield will have delivered a very strong application that deserves the RFL’s support.”
