Dolls Donate to Benevolent Fund

posted on 24 May 2011

The Wildcat Dolls have donated £300 to an inspirational man and a fantastic cause.

Mr Carl Dacres is on a quest to raise £5,000 for The RFL Benevolent Fund after a rugby injury left him paralysed. In March 2009, Carl suffered a spinal cord injury during a game of Ruby League that left him completely paralysed from the neck down and hospitalised for four months. Carl lost the use and sensation in all of his body except his head and was forced to lay flat for 6 weeks.

Determined to overcome this devastating news, Carl set on a mission to defy all odds and begin moving again. With his wedding day planned for August 1st in Jersey, Carl insisted that he would walk down the aisle with Lianne on their special day.

After daily sessions of physiotherapy and a physically and emotionally tiring four months, Carl gradually began to gain movement again and became an inspiration to many when he walked his beautiful wife Lianne down the aisle unassisted with not a dry eye in the room.

At the RFL President’s Ball in January 2011, Mr Dacres was a guest speaker. He pledged that if anyone could get him a place in the London marathon he would raise £5000 for the Benevolent Fund. The Super League RFL Chairman, Richard Lewis, secured Carl a place within days. On 17th April this year, Carl amazingly ran the London Marathon in 6 hours and 40 minutes.
Our very own Wildcat Dolls have donated £300 from their earnings from their ‘Welcome To The Dolls House’ show to Carl, to help him with his mission of raising £5,000 for The Benevolent Fund. The girls understood what a great cause this was and wanted to help in any way that they could.

Sarah Elston commented, “It’s great that the girls have been able to give something back to the RFL Benevolent Fund.  The events that the Dolls are invited to be a part of – in particular the Steve Prescott events – have given the groups some fantastic performance opportunities and we thank them for continuing to involve us. ”

“We heard Carl Dacres speak at the RFL Presidents ball and we really couldn’t think of a more worthy cause to donate to.”

Carl has nearly reached his target but if any supporters want to follow in The Wildcat Dolls footsteps and still sponsor Carl please visit:
