The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats FTUK League is off to a flying start!
FTUK league is growing week-on-week with over 30 people taking part on a weekly basis.
FTUK (female touch UK) is a new initiative which has been set up at many clubs across Yorkshire with the intention of getting more women and girls involved in the non-contact variation of the game. Touch rugby allows more focus on the development of core skills such as passing, catching and spatial awareness.
Clare Marlow Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Women and Girls Development Officer said: “I am thrilled to see so many women turning up, and positively the numbers are continuing to increase week-on-week. It has become a very social evening for all involved which has been great to see, and the standard of play has improved encouragingly.”
Samantha Jamieson who has attended the league for the last two weeks says ‘”I’ve found FTUK (Wakefield) really enjoyable, it’s a great workout and I’ve met loads of really nice people! There’s a great mix of ability so I never felt out of my depth and was able to learn from some of the more advanced players.”
The FTUK league will feed into festivals that have been planned ahead of various professional games this summer. The first league game was held this Sunday at Bramhall Lane ahead of Sheffield Eagles v Hunslet Hawks match. For all involved it was a fantastic experience and nice to have a run out against a very strong Sheffield team.
If this sounds for you then why not give it a try? It is fun, inclusive and a great fitness session for all involved. We welcome both teams and individuals and it costs only £1 to take part.
The league runs on Tuesday evenings at The Rapid Solicitors Stadium from 6:30 – approx 8:30pm. For more information please contact Women and Girls Rugby Development Officer Clare Marlow at; firstname.lastname@example.org or on; Tel: 01924 211611.
