Kear Keen for Challenge Cup Success

posted on 5 May 2011

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Head Coach John Kear has expressed his determination to succeed in the Challenge Cup.

John KearJohn spoke earlier of how he is confident that The Wildcats are a force to be reckoned with in this years Challenge Cup competition, “The Cup is something I feel we could do very well in this year.”

“It’s just  4 games and then you’re at Wembley and I certainly believe that once you’ve got through the first 2 games and you’re in the Quarter Final’s, then it’s just like being in the Super League Play-Off’s. Sunday is a great opportunity for us to roll our sleeves up, go out there and make our way to the Quarter Final’s.”

The fixture against Doncaster on Sunday will give a number of the younger first team members an opportunity to shine and will provide them with key ‘big game’ experience. “The younger players are really excited about this, I’ve sensed it in training”, John told us. “They are delighted with what they’ve done so far in Super League and so they should be!”

“It’s all about the one off, the glory and they are all very excited about it. I am strongly sensing that everyone really fancies a dig at this competition and I certainly do.”

Though Doncaster are a team in a lower league than Wakefield, they are certainly not a side to be taken lightly. They currently sit seventh in the Championship 1 League Table and John knows that they will put up a strong fight, “We’ve had a good look at Doncaster and have seen some occasions where they have played some very good Rugby League. We know a fair bit about them, I’ve made sure that we’re not going in blind.”

John added, “They are a hard working, enthusiastic side; we’ve got to overcome that and come through at the other side. Our main priority is to respect the opposition  and beat the opposition and that’s exactly what we are working to do.”

Liam Higgins and Gareth Moore are cup tied for this fixture and Tyrone McCarthy is unable to play due to his ties at parent club Warrington Wolves. However, as earlier announced, Kyle Amor is available for selection thanks to Leeds Rhinos allowing him to play.

John Kear will be fielding a very strong and a very representative team of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats 2011 and is confident that his side can succeed. To purchase your tickets for the start of our Challenge Cup campaign call 01924 211611 or call into The Wildcats Superstore on Doncaster Road.
