The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats hosted a succesful first round of The Rugby League 9′s tournament last night at The Rapid Solicitors Stadium.

Over 600 supporters turned up at the event to see the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats win two of their three games.

The Wildcats set the evening off to a good start with a 17-4 victory in the opening game against Halifax RLFC. The hosts then faced local side Featherstone Rovers next and fell to a 16-12 defeat after an exciting, close game. The Wildcats ended the evening on a high with their fixture against rivals Leeds Rhinos. The Wakefield team claimed a 18-12 victory over the fit looking, impressive young Leeds side and ruined their chances of a 100% win record for the evening.

Greg Johnson was one of the stand out performers for The Wildcats showing great pace with the ball in hand and impressive footwork to dodge the opponents.

The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats will therefore head into the next round of the competition, on Tuesday 14th June, with 4 points. The next round is to be held at Hull Ionians RUFC and will feature games between The Wildcats, Leeds Rhinos, Hull KR and Hull FC.

This is Wakefield. Together We Are Stronger.
