The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats take on Wigan Warriors tonight at The DW Stadium in Round 22 of Super League XVI.
We caught up with Head Coach John Kear earlier on and discussed the Super League challenge ahead, the current injury list at The Wildcats and the determination to perform well.
JK told us, “We have a few players out this week due to injury. Matty Blaymire, Luke George, Gareth Moore, Stuart Howarth, Dale Morton and Glenn Morrison are all out of action for us but that’s just the nature of the game. A number of players will hopefully be back for The Crusaders game which will be a great boost for the side.”
“Jeremy Smith, Josh Griffin and Josh Veivers are all returning to the squad who will all add something to the game, and that’s our squad.”
The Wildcats have a tough run of fixtures up against them with a clash against Saint Helens last week, Wigan this evening, Crusaders and Warrington in three weeks time. John commented, ”There are three out of those four teams that are in the shake up of being Super League champions or Challenge Cup winners, but of course, you have to play them at some point, it’s just a shame that we are facing them when are confidence and numbers are down but it’s something you have to deal with and get on with.”
John is eager for his team to demonstate an impressive performance tonight, “We are going to Wigan tonight to play well. They are a quality team, they will be a formidable force, not just for us this evening but for all other teams too.”
“It’s a game that we are looking forward to. We could take heart last week, the first half Saints put us to the sword, and obvioulsy in the second half it was 12-6, so at least we showed a bit of resilience and fight. There were things that we could take from that game and build upon for Wigan, and I’m confident that there will be things that we can build upon tonight that we can take into our remaining 5 games.”
“We’ve got some really interesting fixtures left, we just want to go out there and put some good football on the field and hopefully add some points onto the league ladder.”
“I want us to give our all tonight and play as well as we possibly can!”
Kick-Off tonight is at 8pm at The DW Stadium in Wigan. Tickets will be available from The Wildcats Superstore until 3pm today, purchase yours and watch the team in their fight to bounce back!
