Kettlethorpe do Wakefield proud!

posted on 1 July 2011

Yesterday, Kettlethorpe High Schools’ year 7 girls tag rugby team represented Wakefield in the 13th annual West Yorkshire Youth Games.

The West Yorkshire Sport-organised event took place at Leeds Metropolitan University and is the highlight of the sporting calendar for many young people across the county. The year 7 Girls Tag Rugby Competition was new to this years games and featured a team from each of the districts across West Yorkshire.   Kettlethorpe earned their place in the Youth Games having been successful in a tag rugby competition held at Featherstone Rovers on Thursday 17 March.

Kettlethorpe performed strongly in the preliminary stages of the Youth Games winning three-out-of -four games taking them through to the final on point’s difference.  The final was played against a strong Leeds team that claimed a 5-3 victory leaving Kettlethorpe to take second place.

Women and Girls Development Officer, Clare Marlow said; ‘I have had the pleasure of coaching the girls since last September. They played brilliantly throughout the day and showed great team spirit. It’s never nice loosing in a final, but nevertheless they were pleased with what they had achieved. ”

“Their skills and playing ability has improved a great deal this season and for that reason they earned their place at the Youth Games – they did the district proud!”
