The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Reserves claimed a fantastic 28-26 victory over Saint Helens in the final minutes of the game on Saturday afternoon at The Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
The tense game began with the home side getting on the score board first. Young Tom Henderson touched down for The Wildcats and a missed conversion from Josh Veivers left the scores at 4-0. Saints responded with two tries of their own and at half time the scores stood at 12-4 in the visiting sides favour.
Wakefield fought back in the second half and were again first to score. After a number of touchdowns from both sides, the score was left at 26-20 to Saint Helens with just three minutes left on the clock. Impressive youngster, Liam Kaye, scored a fantatsic try in the final moments to take the scores to 24-26 after an unsuccesful conversion. As the victory became to look beyond Wakefield’s reach with just one minute remaining, Kaye scored again. Tom Henderson kicked through the midfield for Liam to collect and he then sprinted the full length of the pitch to score the match winning try for the Wildcats.
As the hooter blew, the Wakefield side celebrated a fantastic 28-26 victory. Tom Henderson and Liam Kaye were both stand out performers of the afternoon but the entire team showed skill and determination to clinch the win in the final few minutes.
