Wildcats Community Trust Move With The Times

posted on 4 July 2011

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Community Trust have continued to show they are making a major impact on the lives of the Wakefield Community by being awarded £52500 in form of ‘The Transition Fund’.

The ‘Office for Civil Society’ has announced that our very own Charitable Trust is one of only 727 organisations, nationally, that have received a share of the Transition Fund.

Davide Longo, Wildcats General Manager said, “It is noteworthy that the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Community Trust are the only Rugby League affiliated charity to benefit from the fund. This is demonstrating our commitment to Learning at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.”

“There were last year 162 classroom based in professional sports clubs supported by the Playing for Success Programme. It is predicted that by September that will be less than 30. Ours is part of our long term plans and we are putting a flag in the sand to demonstrate we are committed to supporting our community.”

The Fund will allow us to ensure that the Education Programme, currently supported by Wakefield Council and the Department for Education continues into the future and become embedded within the Trust.

Mark Winder, Director of Education added, “Our Vision, plans for coping with change and securing better communities, and with the funding we will facilitate a provision that provides services across the city that will meet the needs of local communities.”

“The service will move away from being schools focused, to an out of school hours model that has multiple income streams and meets the needs of the community, with a varied customer following and can be open to end users at a time that is convenient to them.”

“We will replace the Playing for Success national framework with a resilient local framework of partners that is customer led and versatile, enabling it to work within the community to support the community. A Hub will allow a unique opportunity for different agencies and partners to come together to form a cost effective ‘alliance’ to benefit the people of Wakefield.”
