‘Broken Time’ Train With The Wildcats

posted on 18 August 2011

The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have teamed up with new theatre production ‘Broken Time’.

On Monday 22 August the cast will be joining us at The Rapid Solicitors Stadium for a training session with a difference led by Wildcats Head Coach, John Kear, along with the full first team squad.

Written by Bradford-based Mick Martin, BROKEN TIME is a new theatre production that charts the tumultuous events that led up to the historic split between the amateur and professional codes of rugby, or Rugby League and Union as we now know it.

The play is set to premiere at Theatre Royal Wakefield, and JK has offered an unusual opportunity to show the club’s support for this project.

Instead of a cosy rehearsal room, the 8 strong cast of Broken Time will be tackling the full power of the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats’ first team under the professional guidance of John Kear.

John commented, “This is a great project about our Rugby League Heritage and the Wildcats are delighted to support it. I’m looking forward to unearthing some new skills in these talented actors.”

Never to be outshone on or off the stage, the cast will be armed with brass instruments (they are all experienced musicians) and will be playing live music from the show on the pitch to entertain the team.

Greg Boardman, Producer for Three Stones Media, said, “Working with historian Tony Collins has allowed us to draw on some amazing historical detail but we need to make sure our actors really know how tough the game can be. We want to create a piece of theatre that is as authentic as it is entertaining.”

Wildcats Director of Education Mark Winder added, “The work with the Broken Time team compliments the work that Wakefield Wildcats Community Trust are doing with the Heritage Lottery Fund. As a Club we are committed to raising aspirations of our community and the members of the team are an inspiration to all.’

The production will premiere at the Theatre Royal Wakefield on Wednesday 21st September and will run until Saturday 24th September. The show will then be taken to Harrogate, Saint Helens and finish off at The Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield.
