Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are delighted to announce the capture of half back Liam Kaye’s signature.
The impressive 19 year old, who has represented his county on two occasions, has signed a two year deal at the club that will see him become a full time member of the first team squad.
Kaye first signed as a scholar at local club Leeds Rhinos before signing to join the academy team at Bradford Bulls. Liam then moved over to Wakefield Wildcats last year as an under 18 academy member.
After a string of stand out performances all season Liam has been snapped up by the Wildcats first team and will join the squad in the off season. Liam was a shining star throughout the Rugby League 9′s tournament scoring a whole host of tries including a whopping 9 touch downs in the fourth round. The youngster demonstrated a high level of skill in both attack and defence and proved a great threat with the ball in hand.
Wildcats Chief Executive James Elston is delighted that Liam will be remaining at Wakefield, “Liam is a fantastic young player which has been proven by the amount of interest he has created amongst other clubs.”
“He is a very talented half back that enjoys defending and it’s fantastic that we have captured his signature for the next two years. I am certain that there are some very exciting things to come from this young player.”
Liam added, “I’m really pleased to have signed a first team deal with the club, I’ve really enjoyed my time at Wakefield and I’m glad I have another two years here. I’m really looking forward to beginning training with the lads and I hope I can work hard and secure my place in the line up next year.”
Liam is the third Wildcats academy player to have progressed to the first team following the announcement that both Chris Annakin and Lucas Walshaw have signed deals at the club. As previously mentioned, it is great that young players that have developed through the Wildcats Academy are now being retained at the club and not being snapped up by other Super League teams.
