The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have signed Ryan Tongia on an initial contract that will see him play for Wakefield until the end of this 2011 season.
The 21 year old Papua New Guinean full back has joined the Wildcats from NRL team Cronulla Sharks after a one year spell at The Aussie club.
Ryan will be available for selection for The Wildcats in the final four remaining games with a view to signing at the club for a longer period if his performances impress the club executives and coaching staff to a level that they are keen to keep him in Wakefield colours.
Ryan’s versatility allows him to play at both wing and full back and after a full season in the NRL he has now joined Wakefield to get a taste of Super League.
Wildcats Chairman Andrew Glover is looking forward to seeing Ryan in action, “Ryan will be a much needed, added boost for us as we reach the final few games of the season. His NRL experience and passion for the game will be a great asset to the side and I can’t wait to see him in a Wildcats jersey!”
“With the opportunity of signing a longer contract with the club, Ryan will be eager to demonstrate exactly what he is capable of and I’m sure we will see the best of him in the next few weeks.”
Ryan landed in the UK yesterday morning and is eager to meet the team and begin training with the Wildcats.
