Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Community Team stepped into South Yorkshire on Wednesday 31 August to run a ‘Wildcats Rugby League Camp’ using the new inflatable pitch.
The day was organised through South Yorkshire Service Area Coordinator Iain Service from the RFL who works in partnership with Active Barnsley – a registered charity, committed to working with a range of partners to increase the quality and quantity of sport and heath provision in the area, in order to encourage participation in sport and other lifestyle activities.
The specialist rugby league camp was a part of the Shaw Lane Summer Activity Camp which has been running in Barnsley for six weeks from Monday to Friday, 9-3pm for 8-16 year olds.
Community Development Officer Dan Hardy said, ‘’Clare and I are both very pleased with how the day went. It has been a fantastic opportunity for the community department of the club to get out into districts further afield such as Barnsley, exposing the game to individuals who might not have had such opportunities to experience it before.”
“The new inflatable pitch allows us to offer a unique Rugby League experience to all who are lucky enough to enjoy it and I think all the children who were involved at the Barnsley camp did so too!”
“I would be lying if I claimed that myself, Clare and Joe didn’t enjoy getting involved in the activities and trying to showcase our skills converting goals over the inflatable goal posts though, with varying degrees of success and so I for one, am looking forward to the next inflatable event to try and improve and will hopefully see many of you there.’’
Event Organiser Iain Service commented, “Active Barnsley greatly appreciate the opportunity to work with both South Yorkshire Rugby League and Wakefield Wildcats. We hope that after these sessions, more players will try Rugby League within school and at Community Clubs, while supporting their local Super League team Wakefield Wildcats.”
