The club is getting close to finalising the deal with a new Head Coach. All the interviews have taken place and Chief Executive James Elston and Chairman Andrew Glover are hoping to make the final decision in the next few days.
We would like to apologise to all of the fans for this process taking so long, it is just so important that we get someone who can do the job correctly and someone that can share our enthusiasm and ambition.
We have interviewed 7 people for the job, both British and Australian, and there have been some outstanding people coming forward, which shows that the Rugby League community is starting to have faith in us again. Unfortunately, there is only one position for Head Coach, so there will be 6 disappointed people!
We have been looking for a coach that can work to improve the skills and ability of our current squad, but also work to bring in new players (both through the academy and from other clubs) to help strengthen the team for the 2012 season and beyond. The new coach must also be able attract world class overseas players, and make this a place that people want to come to.
All the Coaches we have interviewed have looked at the existing squad and the players we have signed, and they all agree we are starting to build a very competitive team. Obviously there are still places to fill and some existing players that need looking at for next year, but we won’t be signing anyone else until the Coach is in place.
The new Coach will have funds to spend to bring in some extra quality in the places it’s needed, and although our recruitment has started late, there should still be some good pickings out there.
Once again, thank you for your patience and as soon as the deal is done, we will let you know!
This is Wakefield. Together We Are Stronger.
