The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats were paid a visit this morning from a Rugby League club that have travelled a few more miles than most to get here!
The Under 18′s from Australian squad ’Group 6 Country Rugby League’ called in at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium during their 2 week stay in the UK, to look round the Super League ground and find out more about the club.
The group, of over 30 young men and their coaching staff, are on a two week Rugby Tour in which they are playing three fixtures, a long with some sight seeing and exploring on the way! All 34 players and staff have raised over $120, 000 to fund their trip of a lifetime and are all thrilled to finally be here.
The Aussie youngsters, who are staying in Sheffield throughout their visit, played their first game against Leeds Rhinos last week and fell to a disappointing 58-22 defeat, which we are sure was only due to jet lag! The CRL boys then took on the Huddersfield Giants and claimed a 42-34 victory. The final game of their tour takes place tomorrow against Saint Helens and then the rest of the trip will be spent enjoying some well deserved relaxation time.
During their stay the players are certainly enjoying an action packed couple of weeks! Alongside their games, the squad have already visited the Capital City and visited the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield yesterday. The group are all attending the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on Saturday, a game they are all excited to see.
Whilst calling in at The Wildcats the players posed for a photograph on the pitch and stopped by the Wildcats Superstore picking up a number of shirts and jumpers to take home as souvenirs. Development Officer Richard Cattley gave the group a tour of the stadium and gave them some information on both the club and Super League.
The Wildcats would like to wish our overseas fan group all the very best for their final game against Saints and hope that they thoroughly enjoy the rest of the trip!
This is Wakefield. Together We Are Stronger.
