Yesterday saw the Rapid Solicitors Stadium play host to the Wildcats ‘Be a Pro’ day!

The boys get to grips with handling and tackling techniques!

Thirty-three youngsters took to the stadium to take part in the event that allowed children to experience a day in the life of a Super League player.

With guidance from the experts and all areas covered, a great time was had by all attendees. A busy day lay ahead of the boys as they arrived at 9am. A number of activities took place all lead by a team of Wildcats coaching staff including Head of Youth Performance Tony Drury, Player Performance Manager John Kain, Wildcats Youth Development Officers, Scholarship Coach Mick Hill, Reserve Physio Claire Spiers and Strength and Conditioning Coaches Lewis Williams and Gareth Braisdell.

The team of youngsters were split into groups throughout the day and undertook a whole host of different activities, covering the day to day regime of a Super League player. Sessions were given in conditioning and weights followed by a general warm up on the field before a lesson was given on the skills of Rugby League. After the physical action and a break for lunch, supplied by Brakes, the boys then experienced the ‘behind the scenes’ aspect of a players routine and took part in a video analysis and an injury prevention and physiotherapy session.

After an incredibly busy, insightful day, the attendees were addressed by Tony Drury and presented with Wildcats shirts to take away with them. Speaking on the success of the day and the positive reaction from all the boys Tony commented, “A great day was had by all, I’ve received a lot of great feedback from everyone that came along.

This event was the first of its kind and it provides a valid insight to any young hopeful that is keen to get into professional Rugby League. The day went so well that it has been decided that something similar will be held again during the next half term, I look forward to welcoming the next group of youngsters.”

Details of the next ‘Be a Pro’ day will be announced on the website shortly – watch this space!
