Wildcats and England winger Peter Fox is confident he’ll be ready for the start of the new Super League 2012 season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
The speedster went under the knife a fortnight ago and is targeting a return within a few months to make him fit and available for selection for the start of the new campaign.
Fox was Hull KR’s top try scorer in three of his four years at Craven Park, but after enduring a frustrating 2011 he has plenty of motivation for being ready to hit the ground running in Super League XVII and show just why he has been regarded as one of the competitions most feared wingers over recent years.
“I think the worst case scenario is three months,” said the 26-year old of the length of time he will be out of action.
“I’m hoping to be back sooner than that and I’m a fast healer so I’m going to really work hard on my rehab and get back as soon as I can.
“It’s a brand new start for me, a new set of lads and a new coach so it’s going to be a brand new club and I want to be a part of that. As soon as I can get on the field and prove myself then the better.”
The Rapid Solicitors Stadium is familiar territory for Fox, who scored a dozen Super League tries in the red, white and blue having been signed from York City Knights in 2007.
With fond memories from that season and an exciting future ahead, Fox is confident of a successful season in 2012.
“I really enjoyed my year here,” said Fox, who has earned six England caps to date.
“Wakefield gave me my chance to break into Super League and I remember it as being a family orientated club and really welcoming so I’m really excited for the start.
“I’ve spoken to Rich a couple of times now and I’m looking forward to working with him and hopefully we can have a really strong year.
“The possibilities are there. Rich is building a big squad with some really good signings and who knows? Hopefully our goal is to make the play-offs but let’s take one step at a time and look forward to starting pre-season.”
