Glenn Morrison has signed a new one-year contract with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats that will see him remain at the club in a Player-Coach capacity.

Morrison will be at the Wildcats in a Player/Coach capacity in 2012

Morrison, the Wildcats’ skipper during 2011 in his second season with the club, will have an Assistant Coach role to Richard Agar whilst also being in charge of the club’s under 20’s Academy side in 2012.

The former Bradford Bulls man has been gaining experience in the coaching ranks at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium with both the clubs under 18’s and under 20’s Academy sides, with the latter reaching the Play-Off semi-final stage.

Now the 35-year old will take the next step by becoming Assistant Coach to Agar whilst also retaining a Super League playing contract with the club who has made 44 appearances for in two campaigns.

He joins former Hull KR scrum-half James Webster as an Assistant Coach at the new-look Wildcats, whilst Agar has also added Martin Clawson as the new Strength and Conditioning Coach in recent weeks.

“It’s been a long process obviously with a new coach coming in and the coaching side being part of the contract, so we had to make sure it was all good for both parties and I’m excited about the prospects,” said Morrison after signing.

“I’ll be an Assistant Coach during the day and then Head Coach of the 20’s so I get to have my own side and show what I can do there.  That’s what I want to move into eventually so it’s a good chance for me.”

On the playing front, Morrison is excited at the new signings that the club have attracted to West Yorkshire and believes there’s every chance of doing well in Super League XVII.

“There’s some experience coming in which we probably lacked last year,” admitted the former Parammatta Eel.

“I think that’s only going to benefit the club and a lot of the boys have got a number of games under their belt and have come from successful clubs so it’s just a matter of gelling them all together.

“Obviously we want to improve on where we finished last year and not having the minus four at the start of the year will help that.

“I think with the quality we’ve got in here and a new coach with fresh ideas then I think we have to look for the top eight.”
