New Wildcats signing Andy Raleigh says he is excited at being part of a new era at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
The 30-year old completed his move across West Yorkshire from Huddersfield Giants last week along with teammate Danny Kirmond as Head Coach Richard Agar continues to add even more quality to his already impressive looking squad for 2012.
Speaking to Yorkshire Radio, Raleigh believes the chance for a fresh start with the Wildcats – after a total of eight years as junior and professional with the Giants – is something that can bring the best out of him.
“I think it’s an exciting place to be,” said Raleigh, who can operate at both prop and in the back-row.
“Anyone who is a sportsman and spends their November, December and January in the cold weather working hard, then you don’t want to be doing it for nothing. You want to be part of something and I think that’s exactly what is going to be happening at Wakefield.
“It’s a chance to be part of something big, a new era for Wakefield and I’m looking forward to it.
“There’s going to be quite a lot of new faces going in so a lot of the boys will be in the same boat. I think a change is as good as a rest, so I’m looking forward to it. It’s something different, something to challenge myself and hopefully it can bring the best out of me.”
Raleigh also spent part of his career at Craven Park, where he was a teammate of new Assistant Coach James Webster, and says the opportunity to link up with both Webster and Agar was a big factor in his decision to make the move.
“A big thing for me was that Richard Agar and James Webster are there.
“Richard coached me when I played for England students and I played with James at Hull KR so I know they’re good fella’s and good coaches, and I’m excited about the prospect of going there.
“From speaking to Rich there’s a chance to play a bit of both (prop and second-row) and perhaps even a bit at loose forward so all-in-all I’m going to be happy playing and hopefully playing on a regular basis.”
