Based at Eastmoor Dragons RLFC, the Wildcats Girls Rugby Club have been playing in cross-regional festivals throughout 2011 against other girls teams at under 12’s, 14’s, 16’s and 18’s age groups.

On Saturday they competed in the sixth and last festival of 2011 at Brighouse Rangers having flown the flag for the Wildcats since September.

The girls then celebrated by heading to Elland Road to be part of the sell-out crowd that saw Australia defeat England in the Gillette Four Nations final.

Wildcats Women and Girls Development Officer, Clare Marlow is pleased with the progress of the youngsters.

“This year the Wildcats girls and Eastmoor Dragons have merged to further develop the girls and we’re seeing numbers growing week-on-week,” said Clare.

“It is great to see the girls skill set and playing ability improve on a weekly basis and these festivals allow the players to put into practice what they have covered at training.

“The overall aim is to establish a successful girls section at Eastmoor which can field a team at each of the age groups when participating at the festivals,” Clare added.

Training sessions run every Wednesday between 6 and 7pm, and are open to girls aged 6-16.
