Around 2,500 people flooded through the gates at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium as the Wildcats played host to the BARLA Key Security Yorkshire County Youth and Junior Cup finals last weekend.

Stanley Rangers under 14's celebrate their victory

On a wet and windy weekend, 14 teams got their chance to follow in the footsteps of Super League stars by gracing the famous Belle Vue pitch in pursuit of county glory backed by friends,  family and watched by club scouts eager to unearth a top flight player in the making.

Hunslet Warriors were the first side to be celebrating on Saturday morning as they took the under 13’s crown with a 60-0 hammering of Dewsbury Celtic with Kobie Blair-Adams the star of the show with his four-try contribution.

There was a similarly emphatic victory for Stanley Rangers under 14’s over their Hunslet counterparts as Liam Senior’s hat-trick earned him the man of the match award in the 58-0 win.

Rangers’ under 15’s made it a double for their club in a much more evenly contested final against Westgate Wolves to draw Saturday’s action to a close.  Kieran Holt scored the decisive try to take the game away from the Wolves and make sure Stanley left with two pieces of silverware on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday’s quartet of finals saw Featherstone Lions race into a 14-0 lead against Stanningley in the under 17’s finale.  Lewis Birkenshaw and Jordan Anderson both crossed for converted tries to put the pressure on the young Lions, but their nerve held for a tense win ahead of an even more nerve wracking match-up at under 12’s level.

Crigglestone All Blacks and West Hull couldn’t be separated in normal time and it took a Jack Duggan try to settle the contest in the All Blacks favour.

Skirlaugh Bulls romped to a 44-4 victory over Meltham All Blacks ahead of Elland under 18’s fought back from 10-0 down to defeat West Hull 14-10.

The Wildcats would like to congratulate all the winners and runners-up for their part in a fantastic feast of youth rugby action.
