Wildcats Head Coach Richard Agar is expecting a tough test for the Wildcats youngsters when they get the chance to impress against Sheffield Eagles tonight.
The Championship Grand Finalists will arrive at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium (kick-off: 7.45pm) in their first warm-up game in preparation for the new campaign and are set to feature former Wildcat Liam Higgins in their line-up.
It is sure to be a tough examination for the younger members of the Wildcats first team squad that have been named and Agar is looking forward to seeing how the youngsters perform against a seasoned Eagles outfit.
“The result is not massively important, it’s about how we perform,” Agar told Friday’s Wakefield Express.
“The younger players need a chance to show what they can do and we need to make sure that everyone gets a similar amount of game time so that they can stake a claim.
“Sheffield are a very useful side and they will come to Wakefield with a lot of enthusiasm.
“A lot of the younger lads have only experienced age-limit rugby so this will be completely different for them.”
Agar has also confirmed that Oliver Wilkes will miss the next few weeks of training after undergoing surgery this week to have his appendix removed and is facing up to four weeks on the sidelines.
You can read more of Agar’s thoughts on the game plus an interview with Glenn Morrison in this week’s Wakefield Express.
Today’s Yorkshire Evening Post features a double page interview with new recruit Tim Smith on how he believes the Wildcats are capable of causing a few surprises in 2012, whilst Paul Aiton spoke to BBC Radio Leeds earlier this week and you can listen again by clicking HERE.
Turnstiles for tonight’s game open at 6.30pm with tickets priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and £1 for under 16′s.
Parking at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium is free and unreserved.
