After being out of full training for three weeks with appendicitis, Wildcats prop forward Oliver Wilkes is now back fully fit and ready for the new Super League season.
Wilkes is enjoying being back in the Wildcats setup after returning for a second spell for the club and performed well on Boxing Day against Leeds Rhinos before being struck down with appendicitis before the team headed to France for a week’s training camp.
Despite being forced to miss that trip and the home clash with local rivals Castleford last weekend, Wilkes is glad to be back and wants to prove his match fitness against Batley Bulldogs this weekend.
“It’s good to be back, theres been quite a few changes personnel wise right from the top to the bottom and everything’s positive, we’ve been training realy well,” said the Scotland international.
“We’ve worked realy hard between all sorts going on and all the boys seem pretty upbeat especially after beating Castleford at the weekend.”
“I’m just glad to be getting a run out this weekend against Batley, so then we’ll hopefully be in good stead for the start of the season.
“I had a couple of weeks off through illness, did a little bit of training but I’m back now 100% fully fit so im just raring to go.
“It will be nice to get a few miles in the legs on Sunday, as its a short turn around to Friday when the season starts.”
