KIRMOND POINTS TO KEY MOMENTUM CHANGES

Danny Kirmond believes a couple of key moments in the game swung things in favour of Huddersfield Giants in yesterdays West Yorkshire derby.

Danny Kirmond made his 150th first grade appearance on Sunday.

The Wildcats vice-captain was making his 150th first grade appearance and was aiming to get the victory over the club he left at the end of 2011.

Although pushing the new table toppers hard during the game, Kirmond pointed to some key moments that took the game away from the hosts.

“We were in it for long periods of the game against a really good team,” he said after the game.

“They’re not top of the league for nothing and I thought we really dug in at points.

“There were just a few momentum changes that turned it against us.

“The start of the second half we came out really firing and had a dig then they went to the other end of the field and scored a try which obviously shifts momentum their way.

“The boys had a real dig today but personally I’m not happy with my own performance.

“It’s a game of inches and if we’d have converted a few of those chances we had it might have been a different game but at the end of the day we didn’t do that, they did and they’ve got the two points.”

To come out with credit from arguably the toughest game the Wildcats have faced this season is encouraging for Wildcats players and fans alike, and Kirmond thinks there were some good signs to take from the performance, including the performances of Ben Cockayne and Isaac John.

“We’re competing.  We’re not getting blown away in games.

“We’ve just lost a game and I’m disappointed so it’s hard to look at the positives but sometimes you have to do that and we’ve competed in the game.

“Ben Cockayne’s scored a hat-trick and I think Isaac John has had his best game for us which I think is another positive.

“Him coming forward and starting to get better and better each game is only good for the team.”
