Wakefield Wildcats under 20′s Academy suffered the same fate as the first team against the Wolves, going down to a narrow defeat at Wilderspool on Saturday.
The 28-26 loss was also made harder to take with the Wildcats having a seemingly good try for Danny Ansell missed by the referee at the end of the first half.
Ben Currie opened the scoring for the home side before Ryan Wright got Trinity on the scoreboard through Ryan Wright.
But the Wildcats failed to collect the resultant restart and Jordan Burke was able to capitalise on the error to score before Andy Finn extended the Wolves lead.
Liam Kay chased down his own grubber kick to bring the two teams closer once more but Ansell’s score on the hooter was missed by the officials who instead ruled the Wildcats had dragged Wire’s Jordan Burke in-goal.
Currie scored his second shortly after the interval and Gene Ormsby’s try put Warrington in control at 28-12 with 30 minutes remaining.
However, the Wildcats showed character and fought back through Dan Brotherton, Sam Fletcher and Sam Doherty with Ansell missing the kick that would have earned the Wildcats a draw.
Wildcats: Grayston, Doherty, Cowling, Hardcastle, Fletcher, Kay, Wildie, James, Wright, Gledhill, Slater, Trout, Lillycrop. Replacements: Ansell, Joynt, Healy, Brotherton.
