Wakefield Wildcats under 18’s Academy prepared for the start of their season with a team meal organised by Squadbuilder at Thai on the Square in Wakefield on Wednesday night.
The youngsters begin their season against London Broncos at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium on Saturday afternoon (kick-off: 2.30pm), with the squad and Head of Youth Development, Tony Drury enjoying the fantastic food laid on by the restaurant on Cross Street in Wakefield.
Squadbuilder committee member Philip Hulme spoke to the players about how they had the full support of everyone at Squadbuilder and the club as a whole.
Philip wished the team luck for the season ahead and congratulated them on being part of a hugely talented under 18’s squad, whilst also congratulating them on picking the Wildcats as the club to help them achieve their full potential.
In the last round of licenses the Wildcats were only one of five Super League clubs to achieve the green standard for youth development, setting them aside as one of the finest youth development programmes in the game.
The talent in the under 18’s squad is underlined with the likes of Sam Doherty being selected for the England Academy squad recently and also James Healy and Corbyn Kilday, who represented Scotland under 18’s last year.
Squadbuilder was set up in 2002 as an independent body set up by a group of Wakefield supporters who wanted to raise money to enable the club to purchase and retain players, with a particular focus on the players in the Youth Development programme.

Squadbuilder and the Wildcats would like to thank the Thai on the Square restaurant for their excellent hospitality.
