The Wildcats under 20′s Academy cruised to a convincing 46-12 win over their Huddersfield Giants counterparts on Saturday afternoon.
Glenn Morrison’s youngsters ran in nine tries in all including a hat-trick for winger Sam Fletcher.
Fletcher provided Josh Hardcastle with the opening score after a great cut-out ball from Matty Wildie before the winger got the first of his three after another superb pass from Wildie with a Freddie Walker effort for the visitors sandwiched in between.
Liam Kay repeated the trick when he put Fletcher’s second on a plate as the Wildcats went in 14-6 to the good at half-time.
A side containing first team players Frankie Mariano and Kyle Trout cut loose in the second period and the left edge proved fruitful once again with Jordan Grayston and Fletcher combining for Danny Ansell to support and get a try.
Ansell returned the favour in the next set for Grayston to score before more joy down the left edge as replacement Dan Brotherton waltzed in with his first touch.
Hooker Ryan Wright burst out of dummy half to create a try for Liam Kay with Danny Cowling wrapping up the Wildcats scoring late on.
The Giants had the last word with Pete Apinall punishing an error but it was a comprehensive success for the Wildcats under 20′s ahead of the first team clash on Sunday afternoon (kick-off: 3.30pm).
Wildcats: Grayston, Doherty, Cowling, Hardcastle, Fletcher, Kay, Wildie, Gledhill, Wright, Lillycrop, Mariano, Trout, Slater. Replacements: Ansell, Healy, Joynt, Brotherton.
