The big Varsity Challenge between Wakefield College and Pontefract NEW College takes place on Wednesday 28th March, with the main event of men’s Rugby League kicking off at  the Rapid Solicitors Stadium at 7pm tonight.

The Rapid Solicitors Stadium will host the Wakefield Schools finals and Varsity finals today.

Wakefield convincingly beat Pontefract only last week, but this promises to be a tense affair as Wakefield College’s 1st team will be in action elsewehere, defending the Yorkshire Cup Final earlier in the day.

The colleges’ clash throughout the day in a range of events including 5-a-side football, squash, tennis, volleyball, badminton, golf, mixed hockey, netball and basketball, with each successful team scoring a point for their college.  Individual trophies and ultimately the Varsity Challenge Shield, currently held by Pontefract, will be all presented at the end of the men’s game.

Prior to the Varsity clash, the year 8 and year 10 Wakefield Schools Cup finals will take place with Castleford High taking on St. Wilfred’s at 4pm, followed by Outwood Academy against Castleford High, with no fewer than eight members of the Wildcats Scholarship programme in action for Outwood.

The Varsity programme begins at 6pm with the ladies Rugby League, with the interval in the men’s game also featuring a dance competition.

Entry is just £3 and everyone is invited to come and see the local colleges’ students showcase their skills.

This is Wakefield. Together We Are Stronger.
