Wildcats skipper Steve Southern says a packed out North Stand can be like an extra man on the pitch for the Good Friday derby clash with Castleford Tigers (kick-off: 7.30pm).
The finishing touches are now being added to the new roof over the North Stand which is set to enhance the atmosphere for Friday’s big game and fans have continued the ‘Let’s Go North’ Twitter campaign that began before the last home game against Catalan Dragons to fill that end of the ground with home fans after years of it traditionally being considered the ‘away end’ of the ground.
Speaking at this morning’s press conference ahead of the big game, the Wakefield captain has spoken of the boost it gives the team hearing the backing of the supporters.
“The game against Catalan, our fans packed one end and you could hear them which was amazing,” he said.
“My first game against Widnes everyone stacked that back end and when we ran out and looked at that end, me and Paul Aiton had goosebumps.
“Against Catalan was the same thing. You don’t realise just how important fans are when they’re screaming for us and enjoying themselves – it lifts the team. You could say it’s a fourteen man team when you’ve got the fans at your back like that.
“It’s really good of the club to put the roof on there and if they’re stacked there again it’ll be better for us and the boys enjoy it.
“This is our ground and we want it to be a place where people don’t want to come and play us.”
Turnstiles will open at 5.30pm on Friday night and supporters are encouraged to arrive early to take their place in the North Stand with the biggest crowd in years expected.
Guarantee your place for the match by buying your ticket in advance from the Ridings Centre Store, the Rapid Solicitors Stadium Box Office, by calling 01924 201548 or online.
Southern and the boys will stand their ground as rivals Castleford Tigers come to our city…will you stand with them?
Castleford Tigers fans will only be able to enter the Rapid Solicitors Stadium through the turnstiles on Doncaster Road (see map below) and will be directed to either the Eastern terrace along the side of the pitch or the North East corner of the stadium as per their choosing.
The remainder of the North Stand will occupied by home supporters and stewards will be on hand to monitor this.
