WIN IS BIG CONFIDENCE BOOST, SAYS MATCH WINNER SMITH

Match winner Tim Smith says the Wildcats will take a lot of confidence from their derby day victory over Castleford Tigers.

Tim Smith was the Wildcats match winner at the Etihad Stadium.

With just a couple of points between the sides late in the second half, Smith went on an arcing 30 metre run to score in front of the ecstatic Wildcats fans at the Etihad Stadium as Magic Weekend got off to a dramatic start.

Smith was modest in analysing his own score but instead focussed on the lift the victory can give the whole team.

“It was a big confidence boost for us,” commented Smith.

“It’s always pleasing to win games like this and the other pleasing thing is that we go up another place on the ladder.

“At some stages we lost a bit of composure but there’s some things to work on.  Usually winning brings a little bit of confidence so hopefully that’s something for us to build on for next week.

“The boys have been giving me a bit of stick about putting the afterburners on!  It was good to get over for the try but I was just happy that we got the win.”

Smith was partnered in the halves for the first time by Paul Sykes and between them their kicking game was arguably as good as it has been for the Wildcats this season, with one of Smith’s kicks creating a try for Steve Southern and many kicks finding the ground and forcing Castleford to attack from deep.

“I think Sykesy played really well today and had a really good kicking game and I thought Woody played really well when he came on as well.

“I think Paul Aiton was probably the best player on the pitch and definitely the toughest little bloke I’ve ever seen so to have him on our side is definitely a positive.

“We’re happy to get the two points and looking to roll on.”

Trinity will look to build on their derby day success when London Broncos visit the Rapid Solicitors Stadium on Sunday 3rd June, the first game in the Wildcats Summer Saver ticket offer.

Fans can see the games against London, Leeds Rhinos, St. Helens and Widnes Vikings for just £50 adults, £30 concessions and £20 juniors, a massive saving of £30 for adults on paying for each game individually.
