A hat-trick for Huddersfield winger Jordan Higo led the Giants to a convincing win over the Wildcats under 18’s.
The Wildcats were heading into the game hoping to make it back-to-back home victories after an convincing 58-22 win against the Sheffield Eagles.
But it was the Huddersfield Giants who put together an display against the Wildcats to record a 36-10 victory at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
Despite the Wildcats starting brightly in their opening set the Giants took the lead on seven minutes through right winger Jordan Higo who managed to pick the ball up from a perfectly weighted kick from scrum half Jack Miller to make it 4-0.
The away side struck again shortly after opening the scoring as Joel Farrell provided a clever offload to put Ben Whitehead through to extend the Giants lead on 12 minutes.
The first half hour of the contest solely belonged to the visitors as Josh Hunt and Jake Connor combined to give Higo his second try of the game and to extend the visitors lead to 16-0.
However, this seemed to fire up the Wildcats who went onto put Huddersfield under great pressure for the rest of the half which was rewarded with a try for Ben Shulver as he powered through two men and crashed over to make it 16-4 at half-time.
The Wildcats did not pick up from where they had left off in the first half however, as the visitors scored early on into the second half as Miller and Connor this time combined to see Connor extended their lead to 16 points.
The home side rallied and replied quickly as a great dummy run and offload from Jack Anderson allowed Will Martin to score.
This was closely followed however by Higo grabbing his hat-trick as he arguably scored the best try of the game passing three Wakefield players to go over for the visitors.
The try ended the home sides resistance as tries from Jake Shoel and Lewis Graham quickly followed from great individual efforts which saw them crash over the line.
Jake Miller converted both tries to take his tally to eight points for the afternoon and see the score finish 36-10 to the Giants.
