WALSHAW NAMED IN 19-MAN SQUAD

Richard Agar has named academy product Lucas Walshaw in his 19-man-squad for the visit of Hull FC on Sunday (kick-off: 3.30pm).

Lucas Walshaw has been recalled to the squad in place of Frankie Mariano.

The 18-year-old second rower made his season debut in the reverse fixture at the KC Stadium and impressed so much he went on to make four appearances before picking up a hamstring strain.

Frankie Mariano is the man to miss out after featuring in the victory over London Broncos last week. Walshaw has been recalled after spending the past fortnight in the Nines squad where he scored a try in the victory over Castleford Tigers on Tuesday.

The Wildcats have won five of their six Nines fixtures ahead of the back-to-back events at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium and are on course to make finals night, with a great value hospitality option of just £15 available to enjoy the evenings in style.

The Wildcats are hosting Nines events on June 12th and 19th.

Walshaw is joined in the squad by newly installed captain Danny Kirmond after receiving the green light following a scan on his damaged cheekbone which came back all clear, news that Agar was understandably delighted with.

“We had some really good news,” said Agar.

“He has obviously got a big shiner and he was a bit dusty earlier in the week but he has trained the back end of the week after the swelling went down.

“We are fortunate because the medics were 50/50 at the time whether he had a break but I told them at the time that you do see facial injuries blow up, but until you get the x-ray you don’t really know but it gives us a clean bill of health this week,” said Agar.

The squad in full is: Richard MATHERS, Peter FOX, Dean COLLIS, Vince MELLARS, Ben COCKAYNE, Isaac JOHN, Kyle WOOD, Oliver WILKES, Andy RALEIGH, Ali LAUITIITI, Steve SOUTHERN, Danny WASHBROOK, Paul AITON, Kyle AMOR, Danny KIRMOND, Tim SMITH, Kyle TROUT, Lucas WALSHAW, Paul SYKES.
