Wakefield has its buckets and spades at the ready as the Seaside comes to the city and the Wildcats will be there to join in the fun.
This Saturday, Wakefield Council is bringing the all the fun of the seaside to Wakefield city centre.
Families will get the chance to spot some of their favourite Wakefield Wildcats players as the club come and show their support for the event alongside their mascot, Daddy Cool whilst there will also be performances from the Wildcat Dolls and Wildcat Kittens.
What’s more, all 2012 Gold members can get 20% off all merchandise for Saturday only in the Ridings Centre Store which is a big part of the days festivities.
Gold Members must bring their membership booklet to prove their membership in order to take advantage of the offer.
Cllr David Dagger, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for Culture, said: “The Seaside in the City event is nearly here. This is an opportunity for families and friends to enjoy a fun day out at the seaside without having to leave Wakefield.
“All the activities are free and everyone is getting involved to make this a special day out.”
Recently confirmed are Hoola dancers, music from Wakefield Metropolitan Brass Band and a whole host of seaside themed food including fish and chips, donuts and ice-cream.
A giant sandpit, donkeys, trampolines, helter skelter, water balls and a craft and produce market will also be entertaining the crowds alongside music from a steel band.
“We’re delighted to be playing our part in what will be a fantastic day for people in Wakefield. We’ve seen how events can bring people together and I’m sure the Seaside in the City will be a great day out for families and friends to enjoy,” said Wildcats CEO James Elston.
The city’s shops are getting in the seaside mood with activities running at both the Ridings Shopping Centre and Trinity Walk over the Saturday and the Sunday.
The Ridings will be providing shoppers with some seaside fun with a 1950’s twist. With Punch & Judy, tasty treats, singing and dancing as well as fun characters and giveaways.
Trinity Walk are also getting involved with free activities and entertainment all weekend including complimentary candy floss, games, rides and face painting at the ‘end of the pier.’
