LAUITIITI: WE’LL BE BETTER FOR PLAY-OFF EXPERIENCE

posted on 16 September 2012

Ali Lauitiiti says the Wildcats will be better for their play-off experience after bowing out of the 2012 season with a valiant effort at Champions Leeds Rhinos.

Ali Lauitiiti says the Wildcats will be better for their play-off experience.

The Rapid Solicitors Stadium has seen twenty new players come into the club for Stobart Super League XVII and after a club record winning streak in the summer era of seven straight successes, the Wildcats were outdone by a club that have been the masters of the play-offs in recent years.

Lauitiiti was part of a number of the Rhinos successes and marked his return to Heaadingley with a try in the second half as the Wildcats looked to fight back and keep the season alive.

It wasn’t to be as Leeds ran out 42-20 winners and the Kiwi says the squad will learn plenty from their first experience of the play-offs.

“Their transitions were really fast and they kept capitalising on our mistakes.  They’ve just got the class and players like that you just can’t compete with when they’re on fire and on a roll.

“It summed up our year.  The boys never gave in, we worked hard and we’re a strong unit.  The experience will make us a better team and we’ll learn from it.

“It’s a big achievement and something we’ll talk about later.  But tonight summed it up, the boys weren’t happy with the performance and knew we could do better but that’s just the way it is.

“Their transitions were really fast and they kept capitalising on our mistakes.  They’ve just got the class and players like that you just can’t compete with when they’re on fire and on a roll.

“We spoke about it under the posts and said not to give in, go out there and play and just have a dig.  The boys did it for the full eighty minutes so credit to them and the coaching staff.

“But credit to Leeds for doing what they do well.”

Lauitiiti will be in the red, white and blue once again in 2013 as the Wildcats look to build on a hugely promising first campaign under Richard Agar.
